Smart Growth Brea is a grassroots community group composed of concerned residents, working families, retirees, and local advocates who care deeply about our city's future.
Our mission is to protect our neighborhoods, promote thoughtful development, and ensure that Brea’s growth respects the health, safety, and quality of life for everyone in our community.
We believe development should be smart, sustainable, and respectful of Brea’s zoning laws and residential character.
We came together in response to the proposed Amazon DJT4 delivery facility, a large project that threatens our community’s quality of life, peace, and safety. The site is the former Bank of America call center at 275 Valencia Ave, located directly adjacent to and across from residential homes.
We are not against all development, but we oppose the wrong development in the wrong location.
Why We Oppose the Proposed Amazon Delivery Facility
Diesel Traffic & Sleep-Disrupting Noise
The Amazon DJT4 project would result in up to 108 diesel truck trips per day, many of which would occur overnight between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, passing just 65 feet from homes in the La Floresta and Valencia Avenue corridor.
According to noise studies and truck noise data:
These trucks can generate 84–88 decibels, far exceeding safe nighttime levels.
Interior noise impacts are projected to reach 54–56 decibels—above the World Health Organization’s recommended threshold of 45 dBA for healthy sleep.
Brea’s own Environmental Impact Report uses 24-hour averages that hide the real, hourly impact of repeated diesel truck disturbances at night.
These nightly disturbances would cause repeated sleep interruptions, degrade the quality of life for nearby residents, many of whom are seniors. The site is adjacent to the Buena Vida 55+ community, making the health implications even more serious. Despite our concerns, Amazon declined to participate in a real-world noise study.
